Writing Down the Bones

It’s a title of a book by Natalie Goldberg, actually. Writing Down the Bones. I loved it! It’s exactly what you’d think it would be about. Getting raw. Going where it hurts.

Why?

Because that’s where the GOLD is!

Last night I had an interaction that displeased me greatly. A friend of mine was presenting at our weekly training for my financial biz. He’s a bit full of himself, but a tremendous trainer.

I was on my phone.

Why?

Blah blah blah.

That’s why.

He confronted me during the training about not listening and being on my phone; I basically ignored him.

It was rude, but I had my justifications.

(By the way, everyone else gives excuses; but I always have reasons.)

We talked about it a little afterwards, but I was still unhappy about being called out from the front of the room like I was in pre-K or something.

Anyways, the best lessons are always where it hurts!

From talking it out and sharing my frustration, I started to get that I was just burnt out; that I wasn’t having enough FUN with my business and in my life, in general.

You see, being an entrepreneur… is fucking ridiculously tough.

I totally underestimated my readiness when I dove in and quit my shitty corporate job to go work for myself. My dad even offered to double everything I saved (including my bonus) if only I would work another quarter.

But to me, the thought of working 3 more months at that God-forsaken job, sitting at my computer, gave me thoughts of a warm bath and a razor.

So, I did what I usually do in times of tension–I leapt!

Into the abyss! Into the unknown!

Predictably unprepared.

But isn’t that what life’s about?

I don’t mean, entirely. Obviously, it’s good to be prepared when you are presenting or in charge of something important for your j-o-b.

I’m just saying that there is value in jumping out of the plane with your chute and just saying, “fuck it–let’s do this!”

Where am I going with this blog post?

Hmmm….

Oh. So, yeah. Go where it hurts.
